final thoughts. . .

I intentionally didn't bring it up. I figured if I started writing about it, I would merely be saying what every other person has already said. "The greatest." "The best performer of our time." "A star." Big statements for a man that died weighing only 112 lbs. But so was Michael Jackson.

I'm not going to go into how big of a fan I was. What I can say for me is that I am certain of two things: I am a dancer and lover of music. And in my experience, I've come to realize your soul and rhythm are one in the same. What makes your heart beat is what moves your feet. If you didn't like Michael's music, you need to have your heart checked.

Like many people I watched the service today. I watched the casket carried in, the songs sang, and little Paris cry. Sad, yes. But perhaps what related the most to me was watching the crowd sing "We Are The World."

Let me explain.

There is something that happens when people die. I've had my dad, my grandfather, my uncle, and my husband's grandmother all die in the last 2 1/2 years. And in each death, I watched a family come together, my community rally to provide support. It is rare. Rare that we take the time to support one another, to help one another. We live in our world, consumed by our needs. And truth be told, in our world we put ourselves first.

Just like my family has come together and my friends have provide me with support, today I saw parts of the world come together to support each other. And perhaps it all came together and made perfect sense to me as everyone (including myself behind my work desk) sang,

"We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving..."

so so true. and, no matter what one's opinion of MJ is, bringing people together is such a wonderful thing. I love your perspective.
