going trendless

Marc Jacobs

New York Fashion week is underway and though it may be early to call trends at this point, but let me just put it out there, the trend for fall 2009 is. . . "the no trend" trend. Yes, you read that correctly, there are no trends. If you pick up the February issue of ELLE UK, their is a fantastic article about this trendless idea. To sum it up, as the global economy continues to tank, trends are hard to create because people no longer have the disposable income to buy such short lived products. You can read Anna Wintour's thoughts on this subject in a interview posted yesterday in The Wall Street Journal.

The benefit to this no-trend trend is that you can spend the next year purchasing well-made, own it forever, lifetime wardrobe pieces.

Hopefully we will all have jobs so we can afford to go shopping. I say this as I watch CNN tell me that California is laying off 20,000 state workers tomorrow. Sit back and hold on tight, we've got a rough year ahead.

I like the concept...it's time to get creative and rework old pieces, and see what creativity will abound.

Oh man. Hahaha the No-Trend trend. Fashion writers never fail to amaze me. For most people, the fashion trend for them has always been No Trend! Tehehehe. Wear what you like instead of what the mags tell you. Revolutionary ;)

No-trend IS a trend, therefore a TREND! I mean, there are vibrant colors there, so there's a trend!
If they all wore black tailored suits, perhaps we could say no trend, or could we...?

so true, so does that mean no trend is the newest of trends...?

Eh, they claim there will be no trends, but that's just doomsday talk. Wait til fashion mags need something to put on their covers.
