The Reception

So, as you know by now, TJ and I are getting married (two weeks from today!). We went and looked at place(s) to have the reception/party and found the perfect spot - The Sole Repair Shop.

It's beautiful inside, with high ceilings and white walls. There is wood paneling, cement floors, a balcony that over looks the bar. It looks like a garage that's been turned into a New York style loft. Perfect.

We get to set up the room how we like, and since we are determined to spend most of the night dancing, that means very few tables downstairs.

I decided a long time ago that my flowers are peonies. I love them, they are my favorite, and I hope to god I can find some come september.

I've come up with two ideas for the flowers to sit in...

1. Milk Bottles

2. Little clay pots.

Which do you think is best? Or do you have a better idea?

both option I like but milk bottles seems to be less rustic and better for night.

ok, luvie, don't hate me buuut... i don't think you're going to find peonies in september :( but GOOD LUCK! they're my favorites too!

as far as centerpieces go - you have to think of the flowers. the milk bottles have a narrow opening and are very tall - you need something that won't look awkward sitting in them - long stems and full flowers. being italian, i'm kinda loving the terra cotta pots with herbs in them at the moment - they'd make great favors too!

oh, and this space is FAB!! we almost used it for an event last year, but it was too small for us :( did you find a dress yet??

sorry - the event planner in me just wrote you a novel. you're doing a great job! can't wait to hear how it all turns out :)

No dress yet. I threw a pity party last night about not finding a dress yet and having girlfriends that haven't even offered to go dress shopping with me. But then TJ, the husband to be, offered to go with me today (he's the best). So I am going after work. Keep your fingers crossed.

love the space and the milk bottles! I'm a big fan of peonies, too...but with your timing, it will be pretty difficult to find them. Will you go with dahlias instead?

The milk bottles are very cute and would look great with one or two peonies in them (so they don't get too top heavy). Did you check Anthropologie for a dress? I got the catalog in the mail today and the Antiquarian Dress is pretty and subtle. The link is really long, but if you just to to their site and look under dresses you may like it. There are some other pretty ones too.

You posted you're getting married in two weeks, and I was thinking you were choosing a reception locale a little late. Two months is more reasonable. Wishful thinking?

I'm sorry, but I think the only peonies you'll find in September will be made of silk. Which might be a pretty option.

The space matches milk bottles perfectly! They really show some of your own favourite and character, which is fantastic!

Peony is the most beautiful and elegant flower - oh, darling, you will look soooooooo fab!

P.S. Dress shopping is never easy, but I guess if you see the one... you will know! I will keep my fingers crossed for you :)

I like the bottles but I am not sure a peony would fit properly. That space you chose is gorgeous!

I love the bottles too...I think any long-stemmed flowers would work, especially something with a nice lush head in that bottle.

If you can't find Peonies maybe dahlias, hydrangeas, sweet peas...

I like the milk bottles. Mason jars, too, are an option. So fun!

I used glass wine carafes I picked up at Goodwill filled with lilacs.

I liked the way they looked, but they were tall on the table making it hard to see the person across from you and carry on a conversation.

Think you might have the same problem with the milk bottles. And I agree with Coco+Kelley...peonies in Sept. will be a problem.

the space seems fantastic - is it right near quinn's? yum.

i also like the milk bottles or just vintage glass - that way you can get some of the nice blues or greens if you wanted.
