French Fashion Inspiration

First things first - Thank you to everyone (esp. Coco + Kelley) for helping me with finding a wedding dress. I’ve received so much feedback and ideas. Go look at Coco + Kelley and the dresses she has posted and let me know what you think of those dresses. I have to say the first one she posted is super cute and 100% me.

Now onto non-wedding things –

I have a relentless, debt causing obsession with magazines. I order them, buy them, subscribe to them, buy them in other languages, pick them up and love them, I don’t know, I just can’t get enough.

Needless to say, it’s nice when I can find an awesome online magazine that doesn’t require me to buy it, such as the one I discovered yesterday, Dirrty Glam (photos above from the magazine). Personally I think the title is lame, but who cares, the photos and layout are awesome. It reminds me of Nylon but it’s French (so ultimately better).

The magazine did a feature on French Blogs, one of which was Garance Dore (the photo above and all those below are hers). You can use Google Translation so you can read it in English if necessary. Hands down, this blog has the most beautiful people on it, with some of the best outfits on it.

I have to say, I came back from Paris without buying one piece of clothing. Shocking I know. I love clothes, I love getting dressed in the morning and feeling good about not only who I am as a person and what I am wearing. I don’t think there is anything shallow about the fact that I love well-made clothing. I have yet to meet anyone to deny the fact, that when you put on a well-made article of clothing you feel better. It’s like going to the gym and them feeling proud that you worked hard to fit into the jeans you are wearing. Like all things, it can get out of control; girls can get their confidence tangled up with what size they are or how much their clothing cost. But if you have a good head on your shoulders, and can keep your confidence separate from your waist size and pocket book, then there is a lot of enjoyment that can come from owning a well-made piece of clothing and wearing it.

That being said, I love being inspired by photos. I love getting idea of what to go looking for on my Saturday afternoon. TJ and I walk about 7 miles on Saturday, all around Seattle. It’s our weekend walk and we stop in just about every second-hand clothing store, the J.Crew, Barney’s (if I have the guts to go in there), Club Monaco (they’re sale section makes it worth it), Anthropologie, the Chocolate Box (of course), and about 15 record stores (for TJ). I usually go to everyone before deciding if I want to purchase anything. But, it’s the photos that I see through-out the week that give me ideas of what to look for. (i.e. the jacket above, I could put that to good use).

It’s like anyone who spends money, which is everyone. We decide where are priorities or interest are. There is no difference in my mind between spending 100 bucks on clothing and 100 bucks on plants for your garden. TJ spend money on records and then tells me I am crazy for buying clothing. But I remind him it is all the same, he just gets 5 records for the price of a shirt.

Anyways, Garance Dore and Dirrty Glam magazine has incredible photos that can inspire and create new ideas for anyone’s closet.

You came back from Paris without buying anything.
Ok you are a star.
Yes Dirty glam is lovely because it's not a mag that take it to seriously -it's just simple fashion beauty

i'm going to go check these out because, like you, i shop via inspiration. the next purchase i must have - a navy cardigan. so basic, so nautical and summery and waspy.

The on-line mag is great, and still crazy about "une fille comme moi". Good luck with the wedding dress!

The Alice & Olivia dress is a stunner, modern yet classic, with a simple change of the ribbon you have a dress to wear to other things, like someone else's wedding, a fancy cocktail party, your book signing, etc.
